Our Recent Initiatives
2012 Highlights
- Project Ploughshares continues to serve as the secretariat for the Space Security Index (SSI) international research consortium, and program officer Cesar Jaramillo will manage the production of the 10th edition of the SSI annual report.
- On 28 April, program officer Cesar Jaramillo delivered a presentation on recent space security trends at the National Law University in New Delhi, India.
- On 23-25 May, Project Ploughshares hosted a roundtable to discuss pressing threats to the secure and sustainable use of outer space, attended by civil society representatives, academics, lawyers, members of the private sector and military, and government and intergovernmental representatives from Canada, the United States, China, India, and Europe.
- On 5-9 June, Project Ploughshares staff attended the plenary session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Program officer Cesar Jaramillo delivered a presentation on the 2012 edition of the Space Security Index annual report.
- In October, Project Ploughshares staff attended sessions of the UN General Assembly First Committee (Disarmament and International Security). Program officer Cesar Jaramillo was the primary drafter for the statement on outer space security presented to national delegations on behalf of international civil society organizations.
