Speaker: Joost Lagendijk, a columnist for two Turkish daily newspapers and former Member of the European Parliament (EP), will be speaking on whether the slowdown in EU-Turkey relations can be reversed. He was born in the Netherlands and graduated from the History program at Utrecht University. He then went into the publishing industry for 10 years, before representing the Dutch Green Left Party at the EU Parliament from 1998 to 2009. While there, he worked mainly on foreign policy and EU enlargement, and was the chairman of the Turkey Delegation of the EP. He was also the rapporteur for the EP on the Balkans and Kosovo. Together with a colleague he has written three books on EU policy and the borders of Europe.
