The Presbyterian Church in Canada and Project Ploughshares are pleased to announce the selection of Charmila Ireland as the fifth Peace and Security Intern to work at the Ploughshares national office in Waterloo. The internship, which began on September 3, 2013, will last for eight months.
Charmila is an adherent of Knox Presbyterian Church in Teeswater, Ontario. She has an Honours BA in History and French, with a minor in Political Science, from Wilfrid Laurier University. She has worked with other nonprofit organizations, including the Waterloo Region Museum and the Vimy Ridge Historical Site in France. Of her time at Vimy she writes, “While at Vimy I saw the personal, physical, and national consequences of conflict every day, showing me, dramatically, why organizations like Project Ploughshares are needed.”
Funding for the Peace and Human Security Internship Program is made possible through undesignated bequest gifts to The Presbyterian Church in Canada. The internship program gives young Presbyterians an opportunity to participate in the life and work of an ecumenical agency supported by the church. The Presbyterian Church in Canada is one of Ploughshares’ nine national church sponsors.
