About Us

Established in 1976, Project Ploughshares is an independent research institute and advocacy organization committed to peace.

We track data and conduct research that helps policymakers regulate weapons responsibly.

We engage with NGOs, governments and at global forums to help shape policies that protect people.

We advocate for diplomacy and negotiations over the use of force to achieve a sustainable peace.

Project Ploughshares is the peace research institute of the Canadian Council of Churches and operates out of the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA) at Conrad Grebel University College on the University of Waterloo campus. The CPA is home to University of Waterloo faculty and graduate students, as well as peace-oriented entrepreneurs and established local peacebuilding organizations. Policy work and program implementation are often carried out in collaboration with other nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), in Canada and internationally.

Project Ploughshares is a solid organization that is focused on the key crises that face the planet at the moment. It’s knowledge-based. It does its advocacy work on the basis of deep understanding and facts about the issues being addressed.
