Cesar Jaramillo to step down as Executive Director of Project Ploughshares

Throughout his tenure, Cesar has been a passionate and principled advocate for peace and disarmament, guiding the organization through complex global challenges while helping to strengthen its national and international profile. Under his leadership, Project Ploughshares expanded its impact on critical issues such as ridding the world of nuclear weapons, ensuring the sustainable and peaceful use of outer space, curbing the irresponsible arms trade, addressing the risks of emerging military technologies, and protecting civilians from the devastating impacts of armed conflict.

As he embarks on this next chapter, Cesar looks forward to continuing his engagement on peace and disarmament issues in new and expanded ways.

“Cesar’s deep commitment to the mission of Project Ploughshares has been evident every step of the way,” said Rev. Bruce Adema, Chair of the Project Ploughshares Management Committee. “He has led with integrity, clarity of purpose, and an unwavering dedication to evidence-based advocacy for peace. His contributions have left a lasting legacy, not only within the organization but in the broader disarmament community in Canada and beyond.”

The Project Ploughshares Management Committee has approved the formation of a transitional Leadership Group. Cesar will continue to be available in the coming months to offer guidance and support as needed during this transition period, and a dedicated Search Committee has been formed to oversee the recruitment process of a permanent Executive Director.

“It has been the honour of a lifetime to serve as Executive Director of Project Ploughshares, to work alongside some of the most professional and committed individuals I have ever met, and to benefit from the generous backing of our supporters. This organization has shaped both my personal and professional life, constantly reinforcing not only my commitment to building a more peaceful world, but also my deep belief that such a world is possible. I leave Project Ploughshares with immense gratitude and pride in what we have achieved together, and with full confidence in the talented team that will continue the organization’s vital work,” said Cesar.

“We are grateful for Cesar’s many years of service,” added Peter Noteboom, General Secretary of The Canadian Council of Churches. “His leadership and principled voice will be missed, and we wish him all the very best in his next chapter.”
